Galveston's park closes every year after Labor Day. In 2026 it opened on May 2, and the last day on its calendar was Monday, September 7. It reopens in 2027, and season passes for 2027 are already on sale.
The Henry family, who started Schlitterbahn, sold the Galveston and New Braunfels parks to Cedar Fair in 2019, and Cedar Fair later merged with Six Flags. In March 2026 Six Flags agreed to sell seven parks, Schlitterbahn Galveston among them, to EPR Properties, and the sale closed on April 6, 2026. Enchanted Parks of Windermere, Florida, runs the park. Six Flags keeps Schlitterbahn New Braunfels. The name stays, and the park's old page on sixflags.com now forwards to its new site. Six Flags tickets or passes bought before April 6 aren't refunded by Enchanted Parks.
If you read that Schlitterbahn "shut down", the story is probably about another park. Schlitterbahn Kansas City never reopened after a boy died on its Verrückt slide in 2016 and was torn down in 2021. The Corpus Christi park was lost to foreclosure in 2018, and the South Padre Island park was renamed Beach Park at Isla Blanca in 2019.
