We priced 22 budget hotels on the island for the same three nights, taxes and fees included. A few budget hotels stay cheap even on a July Saturday, several are right on the Seawall, and some throw in parking and breakfast.

The date changes the price more than the choice of hotel. On a January Wednesday, 19 of 22 hotels cost under $100 with taxes. On a July Saturday the same hotels cost about three times their January rate (median), and a July Wednesday about a third more than January.
In summer, Red Roof PLUS+ and Econo Lodge were the best value: $145 and $166 on the July Saturday, when the median was about $297. The Residency Inn was the cheapest on every date.

It was the cheapest on all three dates: $48, $49 and $125. It's inland at 6107 Broadway, about 2.8 miles by car from the Seawall, with free self-parking and an outdoor pool. Its Expedia guest score is 5.0 out of 10, so read the recent reviews before you book. It has nothing to do with Marriott's Residence Inn.
